Jonathan Sayeed - Early Life

Early Life

Jonathan Sayeed was the son of the late M M Sayeed, chartered electrical engineer, and L S Sayeed. He is sometimes described as 'Anglo-Indian' or 'half-Indian'; however Sayeed did not describe himself as a member of an ethnic minority. Sayeed was educated at Woolverstone Hall School in Suffolk.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1965, when he was 17. He spent two years at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and then studied at the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon, for a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He left the Navy aged 24 in 1973.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Humanity has passed through a long history of one-sidedness and of a social condition that has always contained the potential of destruction, despite its creative achievements in technology. The great project of our time must be to open the other eye: to see all-sidedly and wholly, to heal and transcend the cleavage between humanity and nature that came with early wisdom.
    Murray Bookchin (b. 1941)

Continual success in obtaining those things which a man from time to time desireth, that is to say, continual prospering, is that men call FELICITY; I mean Felicity of this life. For there is no such thing as perpetual Tranquillity of mind, while we live here; because Life it self is but Motion, and can never be without Desire, nor without Faeroe, no more than without Sense.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)
