Early Life
Scheyer was born in Northbrook, Illinois and is the youngest of three children of Laury (née Hitzel) and Jim Scheyer, who is the president of MCS Industries. He was raised in his father's Jewish religion, and was Bar Mitzvah. He began dribbling a basketball at age three and played in his first AAU national tournament six years later. As a youth, he played in a league called the Fellowship of Afro-American Men (FAAM), in Evanston, Illinois. He received a scholarship offer from Marquette University's Tom Crean as an 8th grader.
