Jon Gibson (Christian Musician) - Early Life

Early Life

Born in San Francisco (1964), Gibson grew up in San Jose, California, only to make his way back to the "City by the Bay" when he was a teenager. A young rebel, the streets of San Francisco became home for Gibson, and after several encounters with the law, being in group homes and time in juvenile hall, he joined the Army (serving in Germany). During this time he discovered a natural ability to write songs. Because of severe allergies, Gibson was given a honorable medical discharge after only 11 months of service.

Upon returning home to pursue a music career with his local band in the early 1980s, between the age of 19-20, Gibson found his father had become a Christian. Jon accepted Christ himself, then eventually began using his talents for God. After attending church as a result of his dad's pestering, Gibson recalls, "I got born again inside that car driving home, and when we got to the house, my father wanted to baptise me and did that right away in the bathtub".

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

    Foolish prater, What dost thou
    So early at my window do?
    Cruel bird, thou’st ta’en away
    A dream out of my arms to-day;
    A dream that ne’er must equall’d be
    By all that waking eyes may see.
    Thou this damage to repair
    Nothing half so sweet and fair,
    Nothing half so good, canst bring,
    Tho’ men say thou bring’st the Spring.
    Abraham Cowley (1618–1667)

    ... such is the horrible idea that I entertain respecting a life of servitude, that if I conceived of there being no possibility of my rising above the condition of servant, I would gladly hail death as a welcome messenger.
    Maria Stewart (1803–1879)
