Jolly Rancher is a brand of candy, including hard candy, gummies, fruit chews, jellybeans, lollipops, and sodas. It is currently owned by The Hershey Company. The product was originally produced by the Jolly Rancher Company, founded in 1949 by Bill Harmsen of Golden, Colorado. The Jolly Rancher Company made ice cream, chocolate and candy sold at several "Ranch Maid Ice Cream" stores in the Denver area. The name was meant to suggest western women.
Jolly Rancher was sold to Beatrice Foods in 1966 and to Leaf in 1983. In 1996 Leaf North America was acquired by the Hershey Company.
Jolly Rancher candies come in many different flavors, including Blue Raspberry, Grape, Watermelon, Green Apple, and Cherry.
Famous quotes containing the word jolly:
“The rooms very hot, with all this crowd, the Professor said to Sylvie. I wonder why they dont put some lumps of ice in the grate? You fill it with lumps of coal in the winter, you know, and you sit round it and enjoy the warmth. How jolly it would be to fill it now with lumps of ice, and sit round it and enjoy the coolth!”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (18321898)
