Joint Information Systems Committee - Structure

Structure

Professor Sir Ron Cooke, then recently retired as Vice Chancellor of the University of York, was appointed Chair of JISC in 2004, and served until 2008. He was succeeded by Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, who was appointed with effect from 1 January 2009.

JISC is an advisory committee to the funding councils, made up of a number of sub-committees, each with a different focus:

  • JISC Organisational Support committee (JOS)
  • JISC Infrastructure and Resources committee (JIR)
  • JISC Learning and Teaching committee (JLT)
  • JISC Support of Research committee (JSR)

Members of the JISC Board and sub-committees are individuals from the education sector who bring a practical knowledge of how ICT is used within institutions, what benefits its innovative use brings, and the issues to be addressed in order to support the future use of ICT. The JISC Executive supports the Board and sub-committees.

Famous quotes containing the word structure:

The structure was designed by an old sea captain who believed that the world would end in a flood. He built a home in the traditional shape of the Ark, inverted, with the roof forming the hull of the proposed vessel. The builder expected that the deluge would cause the house to topple and then reverse itself, floating away on its roof until it should land on some new Ararat.
—For the State of New Jersey, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

If rightly made, a boat would be a sort of amphibious animal, a creature of two elements, related by one half its structure to some swift and shapely fish, and by the other to some strong-winged and graceful bird.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The question is still asked of women: “How do you propose to answer the need for child care?” That is an obvious attempt to structure conflict in the old terms. The questions are rather: “If we as a human community want children, how does the total society propose to provide for them?”
    Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
