Johnstown Christian School - Academics

Academics

A Christian world view is integrated into all areas of the curriculum. Bible class and weekly chapel attendance are required for all students. Instruction is held in all academic areas and is college preparatory in focus. The school year for students extends from the first week of September to the first week of June, for a total of 180 school or education days.

High school is structured into eight periods of 42-minute classes, with a 25-minute lunch period. Physical education is a required course for all students (with classes being combined with girls and boys) for half a year and sex ed for the other half of the year. Advanced Placement level courses are offered formally in five subjects.

Curriculum choices are guided by Pennsylvania State Standards for high school graduation.

At JCS, over 95% of all graduates obtain higher education within the first three years after graduation.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
