Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves

Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves

Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves was a high school garage band that formed in mid-1980s Corinth, Mississippi that featured future leaders of the Oblivians and Squirrel Nut Zippers, Jack Oblivian (né Yarber) and Jim Mathus. Under the names Johnny Goopa (Yarber on drums) and Bart Barf (Mathus on bass), they supported Johnny Vomit on two seven-inch records issued on Eric (né Friedl) Oblivian's Goner Records.

Mathus would later appear (as a guest musician) alongside Yarber in his band South Filthy, which also features Memphis legend Monsieur Jeffrey Evans, Texan-via-Chicago blues harmonicist, Walter Daniels, and current Jack Oblivian and the Tennessee Tearjerkers organist/rock 'n' roll rebel Adam "Bomb" Woodard. Mathus appears on both their Sympathy for the Record Industry-released LPs.

Famous quotes containing the words johnny, dry and/or heaves:

The very last words he ever said were, “High-low Jack and the
    game.”
—Unknown. Frankie and Johnny (l. 44)

I know only one person who ever crossed the ocean without feeling it, either spiritually or physically.... he went from Oklahoma to France and back again ... without ever getting off dry land. He remembers several places I remember too, and several French words, but he says firmly, “We must of went different ways. I don’t rightly recollect no water, ever.”
    M.F.K. Fisher (1908–1992)

“Popeye, forced as you know to flee the country
One musty gusty evening, by the schemes of his wizened, duplicate father, jealous of the apartment
And all that it contains, myself and spinach
In particular, heaves bolts of loving thunder
    At his own astonished becoming....”
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
