Personal Information
In May 1900, John Nordstrom married Hilda Carlson, also a Swedish immigrant, and began raising a family. He and Hilda eventually had three sons: Everett, Elmer, and Lloyd. All three of Nordstrom's sons eventually managed the store, in turn, as they graduated from the University of Washington School of Business.
Nordstrom's only sister Maria's grandchildren and great-grandchildren still live in Alvik, the village where he was born, and in the nearby city of LuleƄ, all in the north of Sweden. They have done well in the transportation business, owning Alviks bus and trucking companies Alviks Trafik and NEX based out of LuleƄ. One of his sister's great-granddaughters, Britta, and her husband Christopher Alam live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from where they lead a Christian missionary work working extensively in Africa and Southeast Asia. A cousin of Nordstrom, John Nordstrom, was a designer of the Parliament Building in Ottawa, Canada. Some of his descendants, the Strand family, live in Minnesota.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or information:
“Fine art is the subtlest, the most seductive, the most effective instrument of moral propaganda in the world, excepting only the example of personal conduct; and I waive even this exception in favor of the art of the stage, because it works by exhibiting examples of personal conduct made intelligible and moving to crowds of unobservant unreflecting people to whom real life means nothing.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“Theories of child development and guidelines for parents are not cast in stone. They are constantly changing and adapting to new information and new pressures. There is no right way, just as there are no magic incantations that will always painlessly resolve a childs problems.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
