John Van Cott - Family

Family

Like several church leaders of his time, John Van Cott was instructed to practice plural marriage. He had 5 wives and many children. His oldest child was born in 1844, his youngest in 1878. Some did not live to see adulthood, others did and some became prominent members of their communities. There are 25 children listed here, but many narratives say had had 28. He has thousands of descendants

His wives and children with each of them.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

We do not raise our children alone.... Our children are also raised by every peer, institution, and family with which they come in contact. Yet parents today expect to be blamed for whatever results occur with their children, and they expect to do their parenting alone.
    Richard Louv (20th century)

English people apparently queue up as a sort of hobby. A family man might pass a mild autumn evening by taking the wife and kids to stand in the cinema queue for a while and then leading them over for a few minutes in the sweetshop queue and then, as a special treat for the kids, saying “Perhaps we’ve time to have a look at the Number Thirty-One bus queue before we turn in.”
    Calvin Trillin (b. 1940)

They would probably help, in some trying time to come, to keep the jewel of liberty within the family of freedom.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
