Following the general scandal over MP expenses in 2009, Sir Thomas Legg requested £2,731.88 be repaid, but Dr Reid chose to repay a total of £7,336.51. A later offer to refund £4,604.63 was accepted in 2010. As a former cabinet member, Dr Reid receives personal protection which has included annual travel costs disclosed as £10,860 in 2010.
