Death
Buccleuch died from cancer at Bowhill, Selkirkshire, Borders, Scotland, on 19 October 1935, aged 71, less than a month before his daughter Lady Alice Christabel Montagu Douglas Scott was to wed HRH The Prince Henry, the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. The marriage was to take place at Westminster Abbey, but given the circumstances, the event was scaled back and the venue changed to The Private Chapel, Buckingham Palace.
Buccleuch was buried on 22 October 1935 in in the family crypt of the Buccleuch Memorial Chapel in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dalkeith, Midlothian. The church is located on Dalkeith's High Street, at the entrance to Dalkeith Country Park. He was succeeded by his son, Walter.
