Death
On July 15, 1948, Pershing died of coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure at the Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C., which was his home after 1944. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, near the grave sites of the soldiers he commanded in Europe, after a state funeral.
