• Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, September 1945 – 1953. The position here was not named "professor" but it was equivalent to an assistant professor position at MIT.

• University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1953 – 1972. Professor of Chemistry.

• The Flinders University of South Australia, 1971-1979. Professor of Physical Science.

• The Texas A&M University, 1979 – 1997. A Professor and a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry (1980).
