Bernhardt Patrick John Bockris (passport name), (born 5 January 1923, in Johannesburg, South Africa. His father, Alfred Bockris. His mother Emmeline Mary MacNally.

From 1929 until 1930 he attended a Catholic convent school in Brighton, England.

1930-1934, for his elementary education he attended Kendrick House, Brighton, England.

1934 – 1937, Withdean Hall, Brighton, England. Withdean Hall was a preparatory school. Bockris was a member of the Soccer. Students underperforming in Math were beaten by Head Master Hamilton. French and Latin were taught. Night runs if weather bad enough

1937 – 1940, Xaverian College, Brighton, England. A Catholic secondary school equivalent in standard to a high school in the USA. English, French, Latin, Algebra and Geometry to Pythagoras’ Theorem. Boys called on by the teacher had to stand up and read Latin into English without hesitation. One teacher of note was Brother Alloyisch Hollingshead who made students aware that what they were supposed to do in life was to serve the community. At age 14 to 16 Bockris spent two hours per day lying on his back. (Scoliosis.) Forbidden football he served as referee.

His mother and aunt earned the household income from tailoring. His father was not present during his childhood. His mother had him taught public speaking.
