John Bertrand Conlan

John Bertrand Conlan (born September 17, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois) is a retired U.S. lawyer and Republican politician. He served as a State Senator from 1965 to 1972 and as a United States Representative from Arizona from 1973 to 1977. In Congress, he was known as a strong and outspoken conservative. In 1976, he ran for the United States Senate to succeed retiring Republican Senator Paul Fannin. He was opposed in the Republican primary by fellow U.S. Representative Sam Steiger. The primary became very bitter, with numerous charges and personal attacks, which Conlan narrowly lost. The general election was won by former Pima County Attorney Dennis DeConcini.

John Bertrand Conlan is a graduate of Northwestern University (B.S.) and Harvard Law School (J.D.) and did graduate studies at Universities of Virginia, Chicago, Cologne, Germany (Fulbright Scholar) and the Hague Academy of International Law. He is a former faculty member who taught geo-politics and American foreign policy at Arizona State University and University of Maryland.

Dr. Conlan is a former U.S. Army captain who served in the Pentagon and Germany.
