In early 2007, Joey made the decision to leave wrestling . He applied and was accepted into a PhD program in Political Science at the University of Oregon. On September 8, 2007 at EWF's Vendetta in Colton, California Joey Harder wrestled his final match and retired from prowrestling.
Joey's reason for leaving prowrestling was "I got to the point where I figured if I worked really hard at wrestling and sacrificed everything I might make it in five years. On the other hand, if I worked hard at academics I'd have a much more secure, stable career in about the same time."
