Joseph Leynard Smith (born July 26, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player who last played at power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA.
Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Smith was the College Player of the Year at Maryland in 1995 and the No. 1 pick of that season's NBA Draft, picked by the Golden State Warriors. He was named to the 1995–96 All-Rookie team. He later played for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Denver Nuggets, the 76ers again, the Chicago Bulls, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Atlanta Hawks, the New Jersey Nets, and the Lakers. With Chucky Brown, Tony Massenburg and Jim Jackson, he shares the record for most teams in an NBA career.

Famous quotes containing the words joe and/or smith:
“While we were thus engaged in the twilight, we heard faintly, from far down the stream, what sounded like two strokes of a woodchoppers axe, echoing dully through the grim solitude.... When we told Joe of this, he exclaimed, By George, Ill bet that was a moose! They make a noise like that. These sounds affected us strangely, and by their very resemblance to a familiar one, where they probably had so different an origin, enhanced the impression of solitude and wildness.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Nobody shoots at Santa Claus.”
—Alfred E. Smith (18731944)
