Joe Duplantier has been in two bands with his brother, Mario Duplantier; one being his main project, Gojira, and the other being Empalot.
Some of the lyrical themes of Gojira reflect Duplantier's personal beliefs in preserving the environment. He is part of the environmental corporation Sea Shepherd.
