Jim Williams (rugby Union) - Ireland

Ireland

After not being selected for the Wallabies in 2001, despite good performances for the Brumbies, Williams decided it was time to look elsewhere. When an offer came from Munster for a two year deal Williams accepted. On arriving in Ireland Williams anticipated that he would only be there for the term of the contract but it ended up being a stay of over six years. Not long after arriving at Munster Williams was appointed captain. His leadership role continued after his retirement in 2005 when he was appointed assistant coach. Williams represented Munster 30 times in Heineken Cup matches, scoring 15 points.

Famous quotes containing the word ireland:

Come, fix upon me that accusing eye.
I thirst for accusation. All that was sung.
All that was said in Ireland is a lie
Breed out of the contagion of the throng,
Saving the rhyme rats hear before they die.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

Life springs from death and from the graves of patriot men and women spring living nations.... They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools, they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.
    Patrick Henry Pearse (1879–1916)

In Ireland they try to make a cat cleanly by rubbing its nose in its own filth. Mr. Joyce has tried the same treatment on the human subject. I hope it may prove successful.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
