Jerzy Smolicz - Homosexuality

Homosexuality

Smolicz was a closeted homosexual, and was afraid to come out and lose respectability in academic and social circles. He always had attractive male students around him and used their academic and professional dependence on him to harass them sexually. Thus Smolicz undermined or destroyed careers of several young men. Formal complaints were made, and he was the object of an internal university investigation and was found guilty. The matter was further investigated by the Equal Opportunity Commission of South Australia and, as a result of the investigation, Smolicz had to write a letter of apology and undertake a course on sexual harassment.
