Life
Giedymin, of Polish origin, was born in 1925.
He studied at the University of Poznan under Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz. In 1953 Jerzy Giedymin succeeded Adam Wiegner at the Chair of Logic at the Faculty of Philosophy.
The so-called Poznan School was a Marxist current of philosophy marked by an idealisational theory of science which emphasised the scientific features of Marxism in close confrontation with contemporary logic and epistemology.
In 1968 Giedymin moved to England and attended seminars by Karl Popper at the London School of Economics.
In 1971 he came to Sussex to become Professor at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the University of Sussex.
Giedymin died during a trip to Poland on 24 June 1993.

Famous quotes containing the word life:
“Under certain circumstances there are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
—Henry James (18431916)
“Reminiscences, even extensive ones, do not always amount to an autobiography.... For autobiography has to do with time, with sequence and what makes up the continuous flow of life. Here, I am talking of a space, of moments and discontinuities. For even if months and years appear here, it is in the form they have in the moment of recollection. This strange formit may be called fleeting or eternalis in neither case the stuff that life is made of.”
—Walter Benjamin (18921940)
“... the great mistake of the reformers is to believe that life begins and ends with health, and that happiness begins and ends with a full stomach and the power to enjoy physical pleasures, even of the finer kind.”
—Katharine Fullerton Gerould (18791944)
