The Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm in Atlantic City, New Jersey, is the first coastal wind farm in the United States and the first wind farm in New Jersey. It became operational in December 2005 and consists of five 1.5 MW turbines built by General Electric. Each wind turbine reaches a height of 380 feet (120 m).
The wind farm is located at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) Wastewater Treatment Plant on U.S. Route 30 and is visible from highways approaching Atlantic City. The treatment plant will use between 35% and 60% of the wind-generated capacity from the wind turbines, providing about 50% of the wastewater plant's electricity needs, with the remaining energy being provided to the main power grid for resale as premium renewable electricity.
Famous quotes containing the words wind and/or farm:
“The wind shifts like this:
Like a human without illusions,
Who still feels irrational things within her.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“Farm policy, although its complex, can be explained. What it cant be is believed. No cheating spouse, no teen with a wrecked family car, no mayor of Washington, DC, videotaped in flagrante delicto has ever come up with anything as farfetched as U.S. farm policy.”
—P.J. (Patrick Jake)
