Death

Zucker died of a brain tumor on April 12, 2008. Zucker was survived by his wife Anita, who became the first female governor of HBC in its 338 year history, and by his children Jonathan Zucker, Andrea Muzin, and Jeffrey Zucker.

Ted Levin, president of the Emanu-el synagogue, said at Zucker's funeral:

"Anybody who reached out to him for help never went away with an empty hand....It's a loss not just for our community, or for Charleston, but it's a loss for the world."

Famous quotes containing the word death:

We often see malefactors, when they are led to execution, put on resolution and a contempt of death which, in truth, is nothing else but fearing to look it in the face—so that this pretended bravery may very truly be said to do the same good office to their mind that the blindfold does to their eyes.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

Old age is a tyrant that forbids us upon pain of death all the pleasures of youth.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

    To die, to sleep—
No more, and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to—’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep.
To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil
    Must give us pause.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
