Jerry E. Patterson - Campaign For Lieutenant Governor of Texas

Campaign For Lieutenant Governor of Texas

In July 2011 Patterson announced that he would run for Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 2014. The three-term incumbent Lieutenant Governor, David Dewhurst (who recently announced he'll seek re-election to a fourth term), had earlier announced that he is running for the U.S. Senate in 2012: which Dewhurst was defeated by former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz in the Republican primary runoff election on July 31, 2012. Other potential opponents Patterson may face in the 2014 Republican primary are Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and Comptroller Susan Combs, as well as Republican State Senator Dan Patrick of Houston.

Famous quotes containing the words campaign, governor and/or texas:

The fact that a man is to vote forces him to think. You may preach to a congregation by the year and not affect its thought because it is not called upon for definite action. But throw your subject into a campaign and it becomes a challenge.
    John Jay Chapman (1862–1933)

I saw the man my friend ... wants pardoned, Thomas Flinton. He is a bright, good-looking fellow.... Of his innocence all are confident. The governor strikes me as a man seeking popularity, who lacks the independence and manhood to do right at the risk of losing popularity. Afraid of what will be said. He is prejudiced against the Irish and Democrats.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Fifty million Frenchmen can’t be wrong.
    —Anonymous. Popular saying.

Dating from World War I—when it was used by U.S. soldiers—or before, the saying was associated with nightclub hostess Texas Quinan in the 1920s. It was the title of a song recorded by Sophie Tucker in 1927, and of a Cole Porter musical in 1929.
