Famous quotes containing the words bbc, young, musician and/or year:
“To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.”
—Anonymous. quoted in Quote Unquote, Feb. 22, 1982, BBC Radio 4.
“So thats why youre green around the gills. Spring comes to the bushveldt, the young bucks start butting their heads together.”
—Leigh Brackett (19151978)
“The mastery of ones phonemes may be compared to the violinists mastery of fingering. The violin string lends itself to a continuous gradation of tones, but the musician learns the discrete intervals at which to stop the string in order to play the conventional notes. We sound our phonemes like poor violinists, approximating each time to a fancied norm, and we receive our neighbors renderings indulgently, mentally rectifying the more glaring inaccuracies.”
—W.V. Quine (b. 1908)
“It had been cold since December. Snow fell, first,
At New Year and, from then until April, lay
On everything. Now it had melted, leaving
The gray grass like a pallet, closely pressed;
And dirt. The wind blew in the empty place.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
