Jr Hockey
He played Jr. A hockey beginning in 1999 for the Detroit Compuware Ambassadors and then the following year for the Soo Indians before moving up to the USHL for the 2001–2002 season. Genovy helped lead the Des Moines Buccaneers to 3rd spot in the USHL East and a playoff spot but the team did not go far into the post season. He was 3rd in scoring on the teams for the 2001–2002 season. Genovy was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 3rd round #96 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
