Personal
While working as a bullpen catcher during a game against Oakland, Phillips met his future fiancee, Molly Ray. She was sitting in the stands as a spectator, and they made eye contact throughout the game. When it went into extra innings, Phillips impulsively wrote his phone number on a ball and threw it to Ray. She sent him a text message, and they subsequently began dating. In recognition of the circumstances of their meeting, they decided to hold their wedding in the bullpen at Safeco Field, after the conclusion of the Mariners' game on June 20, 2010.

Famous quotes containing the word personal:
“I would rather have as my patron a host of anonymous citizens digging into their own pockets for the price of a book or a magazine than a small body of enlightened and responsible men administering public funds. I would rather chance my personal vision of truth striking home here and there in the chaos of publication that exists than attempt to filter it through a few sets of official, honorably public-spirited scruples.”
—John Updike (b. 1932)
“I leave the governors office next week, and with it public life ... [which] has been on the whole a pleasant one. But for ten years and over my salaries have not equalled my expenses, and there has been a feeling of responsibility, a lack of independence, and a necessary neglect of my family and personal interests and comfort, which make the prospect of a change comfortable to think of.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“The personal touch between the people and the man to whom they temporarily delegated power of course conduces to a better understanding between them. Moreover, I ought not to omit to mention as a useful result of my journeying that I am to visit a great many expositions and fairs, and that the curiosity to see the President will certainly increase the box receipts and tend to rescue many commendable enterprises from financial disaster.”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
