Jason Brooks (illustrator)

Jason Brooks (born February 23, 1969) is an illustrator based in London. He grew up in Brighton on the south coast of England.


Jason Brooks was born in London and grew up in Brighton, England. He began drawing and painting avidly at an early age and received his first freelance commissions in his early teens. Brooks was awarded a BA in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins college, London, and went on to take a Master's Degree in illustration at the Royal College of Art. Whilst at college he won the Vogue/Sothebys Award for fashion illustration. and began working regularly for British Vogue while still at college.

Following the Royal College, Brooks began his career as a fashion illustrator and produced illustrated reports for the Independent Newspaper from the Couture Shows in Paris as well as the shows in New York for Visionaire and Max and London fashion week for Elle magazine. Brooks also travelled widely during this time and produced illustrations and sketchbooks from his travels.He was awarded a travel bursary from Thames Television to tour Central America and went on to win the subsequent overall bursary prize.

Also during the 1990s Brooks produced a series of flyers for the London club Pushca which brought his illustrations to a wider audience each month as each themed party demanded a new piece of artwork.

Brooks then went on to illustrate the covers of over 100 covers for Hedkandi records, based in London. Brooks is often credited as being one of the first illustrators to pioneer the use of computers to create and publish illustrations.

His glamorous fashion illustrations have established a highly influential style and legions of imitators. He has also worked for many high profile brands including Virgin Atlantic, Guerlain,L'Oreal,Veuve Clicquot,Martini,Saatchi and Saatchi,Ritz Hotels,Neimann Marcus, Carlsberg, Finlandia and Mont Blanc.

Brooks' work is now in the permanent collection of The V&A museum London. 2012 sees Jason Brooks working on his first book, 'A Paris Sketchbook' to be published by Laurence King and due out in 2013.

Jason Brooks has illustrated over 100 CD covers for London based record label and lifestyle brand Hed Kandi, selling an estimated 6 million plus records. As of 2012 Brooks is no longer employed by Hed Kandi.
