Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation

Barrios became president of GLAAD in September 2009, making him the only bilingual leader of a national LGBT organization.

Barrios resigned from his position on June 18, 2011, following allegations of impropriety by some former board members after GLAAD issued two statements supporting the merger of one of its corporate donors, AT&T, with T-Mobile and questioning the merits of network neutrality. Both statements were promptly retracted by the organization. The press releases were criticized by Michelangelo Signorile.

Famous quotes containing the words gay, lesbian and/or alliance:

KRUMPACKER: Yes London’s a little too gay for us
Don’t think I mean anything coarse
But I’m afraid we couldn’t stand the pace.
    What about it Klip?
    KLIPSTEIN: You said it, Krum.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

When you take a light perspective, it’s easier to step back and relax when your child doesn’t walk until fifteen months, . . . is not interested in playing ball, wants to be a cheerleader, doesn’t want to be a cheerleader, has clothes strewn in the bedroom, has difficulty making friends, hates piano lessons, is awkward and shy, reads books while you are driving through the Grand Canyon, gets caught shoplifting, flunks Spanish, has orange and purple hair, or is lesbian or gay.
    Charlotte Davis Kasl (20th century)

Racism as a form of skin worship, and as a sickness and a pathological anxiety for America, is so great, until the poor whites—rather than fighting for jobs or education—fight to remain pink and fight to remain white. And therefore they cannot see an alliance with people that they feel to be inherently inferior.
    Jesse Jackson (b. 1941)
