Jan Wyck - Later Life

Later Life

Jan Wyck began to school young British artists whilst continuing to work on his own projects, and became highly influential in the development of British art in the period, particularly in the genre of battle painting. One of his principal students that went on to produce great works of national importance was John Wootton, who exemplified British equestrian and military art in the early eighteenth century.

Jan Wyck died at his family home in Mortlake, Surrey, on 17 May 1702, aged 49.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

The future of humanity is uncertain, even in the most prosperous countries, and the quality of life deteriorates; and yet I believe that what is being discovered about the infinitely large and infinitely small is sufficient to absolve this end of the century and millennium. What a very few are acquiring in knowledge of the physical world will perhaps cause this period not to be judged as a pure return of barbarism.
    Primo Levi (1919–1987)

It is normal to give away a little of one’s life in order not to lose it all.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
