Wilder's son, James Wilder, Jr., currently attends Florida State University following his graduation from Henry B. Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, and was named High School Football Junior of the Year by Rivals.com. He was also named to the USA Today All-USA Second Team. On August 18, 2010, Wilder, Jr. committed to play college football at Florida State University.
James daughter, Courtney Wilder, is a starting player on the LFL Tampa Breeze.
