A Beta release of GoldenEye: Source was scheduled for December 25, 2006, but was released on December 26, 2006.

In January 2007, it was awarded twice in the 2006 annual Moddb awards, a win in Editor's Choice for the Reinvention category, and was player-voted 3rd place in the overall category Mod of the year . A significant rise from the 2005 awards, which earned GoldenEye: Source 4th place in the unreleased category.

On December 5, 2007, one of the developers released an unofficial patch. This patch fixes some of the bugs there are present in the first beta version. The developer team will not support this patch, and support is only available in a topic in the GoldenEye: Source forum.

Famous quotes containing the words computer and/or game:

The archetype of all humans, their ideal image, is the computer, once it has liberated itself from its creator, man. The computer is the essence of the human being. In the computer, man reaches his completion.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)

The indispensable ingredient of any game worth its salt is that the children themselves play it and, if not its sole authors, share in its creation. Watching TV’s ersatz battles is not the same thing at all. Children act out their emotions, they don’t talk them out and they don’t watch them out. Their imagination and their muscles need each other.
    Leontine Young (20th century)
