Jaff is a kurdish family that is renowned for supporting the government and regimes in Iran and Iraq. During the Shah's regime in Iran the Jaff tribe was considered one of its most valuable allies. After the collapse of the Shah regime the Jaff tribe fleed to Iraq.

A single family lies at the head of the tribe. Members of this family are called the Begzade, and the male members hold hereditary titles such as Bey, Beg or Aga and have also been awarded the title of Pasha by a number of Ottoman Sultans for their loyalty to the Ottoman regimes (Jash) The Begzade lineage stretches back over hundreds of years and traces its origins to the Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, the seat of the family is Shirwana castle, which still stands today near the town of Kalar.
