Izaak Walton Inn

The Izaak Walton Inn is a historic inn in Essex, Montana, USA. It was originally built by the Great Northern Railway in 1939 for lodging railway workers. The hotel was originally planned as a gateway to Glacier National Park, but that plan never materialized. Today, the inn is at the only flag stop along the route of Amtrak's Empire Builder.

A van from the Inn meets both the morning eastbound and the evening westbound Empire Builders to convey departing/arriving passengers between the platform and the Inn. The Izaak Walton Inn is open year round.

The Tudor Revival inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The inn has 33 rooms for rent within the inn itself, with some other space available in refurbished cabooses, etc. It is privately owned.

Famous quotes containing the words walton and/or inn:

We may say of angling, as Dr. Boteler said of strawberries, “Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did;” and so, if I might be judge, God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.
    —Izaak Walton (1593–1683)

The repose of sleep refreshes only the body. It rarely sets the soul at rest. The repose of the night does not belong to us. It is not the possession of our being. Sleep opens within us an inn for phantoms. In the morning we must sweep out the shadows.
    Gaston Bachelard (1884–1962)
