I've Told Ev'ry Little Star

"I've Told Ev'ry Little Star" is a popular song with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, published in 1932. The song was introduced in the musical play, Music in the Air. It has since been recorded by many artists.

The most well-known recording was the 1961 hit by Linda Scott, titled "I've Told Every Little Star," which reached number three on the U.S. Pop charts and also reached the top ten in New Zealand and South Africa. In an audition scene in the film Mulholland Drive, the Linda Scott recording was used for the voice of the auditioning actress (Melissa George). This version was sampled by rapper Mac Miller on his 2011 single "Knock Knock".

Famous quotes containing the words told and/or star:

... actresses are such very dull people off the stage. We are only delightful and brilliant when we are doing what we are told to do. Off stage we are awful chumps.
    Dame Edith Evans (1888–1976)

The flattering, if arbitrary, label, First Lady of the Theatre, takes its toll. The demands are great, not only in energy but eventually in dramatic focus. It is difficult, if not impossible, for a star to occupy an inch of space without bursting seams, cramping everyone else’s style and unbalancing a play. No matter how self-effacing a famous player may be, he makes an entrance as a casual neighbor and the audience interest shifts to the house next door.
    Helen Hayes (1900–1993)
