It's All in Your Head FM: Over The Edge Live On Stage

It's All in Your Head FM: Over the Edge Live on Stage is a 2006 album by the sound collage band Negativland. It was compiled from a series of live recordings made by the band in California (San Francisco and Los Angeles) in October 2005.

The material performed by the band is largely culled from an 11-part series of radio shows done by Negativland member Don Joyce on his weekly radio show Over the Edge, broadcast on the Berkeley, California radio station KPFA. The series was also called "It's All in Your Head", and its theme was to propose, and provide evidence for, the case that there is no God.

The live performance continues in that vein, with many samples of people discussing the various facets of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other major religions, and the role of religion in society. It is hosted by Don Joyce in one of his many alter egos, that of Dr. Oslo Norway, chairman of One World Advertising.

The premise of the recording is that with radio's audience having shrunk so much over the past decades, that a radio station would have to do something as outlandish as proclaim the nonexistence of God to get ratings. The CD can be purchased at Negativland performances, but is currently not available for retail sale. A second edition was planned for 2009 and, according to their website, will be available by mail-order if and when it is released.

Famous quotes containing the words head, edge, live and/or stage:

[University students] hated the hypocrisy of adult society, the rigidity of its political institutions, the impersonality of its bureaucracies. They sought to create a society that places human values before materialistic ones, that has a little less head and a little more heart, that is dominated by self-interest and loves its neighbor more. And they were persuaded that group protest of a militant nature would advance those goals.
    Muriel Beadle (b. 1915)

Neither a borrower nor a lender be,
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

I would not give half a guinea to live under one form of government rather than another. It is of no moment to the happiness of an individual.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

At a stage when young people want more than anything to be like everyone else, they find themselves the least alike. Everyone their age is growing and changing, but each at his or her own pace.
    Laurence Steinberg (20th century)
