Italian Battleship Andrea Doria (1913)
The second Italian battleship named Andrea Doria was an Andrea Doria-class battleship of the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy). She served in both World War I and World War II before being decommissioned in 1958. The battleship was named after the 16th century Genoese Admiral Andrea Doria (1466–1560).
In 1920 she was involved in the Italo-Yugoslav dispute over the city of Fiume.
The ship was extensively rebuilt between 1937 and 1940, with Q turret removed and main guns re-bored. New machinery, secondary armament, and improved armour were also fitted.
During World War II the Andrea Doria served primarily as a convoy escort between Italy and Libya and took part in the First Battle of Sirte. After the Armistice in September 1943 the ship was sailed to Malta and interned by the Allies until after the war when she was returned to Italy to serve as a training ship until 1953.
