Israeli Educational Television

The Israeli Educational Television (IETV, Hebrew: הטלוויזיה החינוכית הישראלית‎, HaTelevizya HaḤinukhít HaYisra'elit) is a state-owned public terrestrial television network which used to concentrate on producing and broadcasting programs for schoolchildren. The first Israeli children's show, featuring Kishkashta, aired on Channel 1 in the 1970s and '80s. However, since the 1980s IETV began to produce TV magazines and programs aimed at adults and senior citizens.

Famous quotes containing the words israeli, educational and/or television:

...I want to see a film, they send the Israeli army reserves to escort me! What kind of life is this?
    Golda Meir (1898–1978)

We do not have to get our children to learn; only to allow and encourage them in their learning. We do not have to dictate what they should learn; only to discern and respond to what it is that they are learning. Such responsiveness is at once the most educational and the most loving.
    Polly Berrien Berends (20th century)

The television screen, so unlike the movie screen, sharply reduced human beings, revealed them as small, trivial, flat, in two banal dimensions, drained of color. Wasn’t there something reassuring about it!—that human beings were in fact merely images of a kind registered in one another’s eyes and brains, phenomena composed of microscopic flickering dots like atoms. They were atoms—nothing more. A quick switch of the dial and they disappeared and who could lament the loss?
    Joyce Carol Oates (b. 1938)
