Decision By UN To Investigate

The United Nations Human Rights Commission decided in March 2012 to establish a panel charged with investigating "the implications of the Israeli settlements on the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the Palestinian people throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem." In reaction to that decision, the government of Israel ceased cooperating with the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and has boycotted the UN Human Rights Commission. The U.S. government has acceded to the Israeli government demand to attempt to thwart the formation of such a panel, and has been pressuring the UN Human Rights Commissioner to postpone the establishment of the panel for as long as possible in the hope that this will eventually lead to the matter being unofficially buried.
