The Israel Religious Action Center (Hebrew: המרכז לפלורליזם יהודי) also known as IRAC, was established in 1987 as the public and legal advocacy arm of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism. It is located in Jerusalem, Israel. IRAC aims to defend equality, social justice, and religious pluralism within Israel, through the Israeli legal system, lobbying and propaganda. Recent campaigns include an effort to ban gender segregation on Israeli public buses, a successful public campaign for the abolition of income guarantees to kollel students, and a lobbying campaign in defense of human rights organizations operating in Israel. Anat Hoffman, currently the executive director of IRAC, is also the director of Neshot HaKotel, an organization of women who pray at the Western Wall in an egalitarian manner.
Famous quotes containing the words israel, religious, action and/or center:
“Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.”

“The best conversation is rare. Society seems to have agreed to treat fictions as realities, and realities as fictions; and the simple lover of truth, especially if on very high grounds, as a religious or intellectual seeker, finds himself a stranger and alien.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“For the child whose impulsiveness is indulged, who retains his primitive-discharge mechanisms, is not only an ill-behaved child but a child whose intellectual development is slowed down. No matter how well he is endowed intellectually, if direct action and immediate gratification are the guiding principles of his behavior, there will be less incentive to develop the higher mental processes, to reason, to employ the imagination creatively. . . .”
—Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)
“I dont think Americas the center of the world anymore. I think African women will lead the way [in] ... womens liberation ... The African woman, shes got a country, shes got the flag, shes got her own army, got the navy. She doesnt have a racism problem. Shes not afraid that if she speaks up, her man will say goodbye to her.”
—Faith Ringgold (b. 1934)
