Islamic View of The Last Judgment - Classical and Modern Views

Classical and Modern Views

There are classical Sunni scholars like Ghazali and Ibn Taymiyyah who provide a classical Sunni interpretation of the Last Judgment, while more modern Shi'ite writers like Ruhollah Khomeini have also interpreted its implications. The Shia view is distinct from Sunni Islam. Shia believes in 12 Imams with each a descendant of Muhammad through his daughter Fatima and her husband Ali. Ali was the cousin of Muhammad and is considered the first Imam. Muhammed al-Mahdi is the twelfth and "hidden Imam", shrouded till the end of times when he will lead the Islam in its final battle.
