Views On Islamic Inheritance

Professor Almaric Rumsey (1825–1899) from King's College, University of London, wrote in one of his many legal books, " comprises beyond question the most refined and elaborate system of rules for the devolution of property that is known to the civilised world."

Recently, the director of the Indonesian Ministry of Islamic Religious Affairs, Nasruddin Umar, who is also a professor at the Indonesian Universitas Islam Negeri and known for a modern interpretation of the Qur'an, has declared that Islam, and thus the Qur'an, supports the division of inheritance between male and female descendants at a ratio of 1:1. His views were protested against by traditional Muslims.

Famous quotes containing the words views on, views and/or inheritance:

Political correctness is the natural continuum from the party line. What we are seeing once again is a self-appointed group of vigilantes imposing their views on others. It is a heritage of communism, but they don’t seem to see this.
    Doris Lessing (b. 1919)

Meek young men grow up in libraries, believing it their duty to accept the views which Cicero, which Locke, which Bacon, have given, forgetful that Cicero, Locke, and Bacon were only young men in libraries, when they wrote these books. Hence, instead of Man Thinking, we have the book-worm.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I call it our collective inheritance of isolation. We inherit isolation in the bones of our lives. It is passed on to us as sure as the shape of our noses and the length of our legs. When we are young, we are taught to keep to ourselves for reasons we may not yet understand. As we grow up we become the “men who never cry” and the “women who never complain.” We become another generation of people expected not to bother others with our problems.
    Paula C. Lowe (20th century)
