Isabella Belfer - Life in Prison

Life in Prison

Belfer was granted an interview with Russia Today after her sentence was cut in half. Israeli and Russian authorities discussed the possibility of exchanging Belfer for Yair Klein, an Israeli mercenary being held in Russia for allegedly helping Columbian terrorists. On 14 January 2010, President Shimon Peres granted her a pardon, allegedly after being personally asked by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Belfer was pardoned on condition that Rotem be allowed to visit his daughter in Russia.

Famous quotes containing the words life in, life and/or prison:

Pessimism ... is, in brief, playing the sure game. You cannot lose at it; you may gain. It is the only view of life in which you can never be disappointed. Having reckoned what to do in the worst possible circumstances, when better arise, as they may, life becomes child’s play.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)

Chaucer sawed life in half and out tumbled hundreds of unpremeditated lives, because he didn’t have the cast-iron grid of a priori coherence that makes reading Goethe, Shakespeare, or Dante an exercise in searching for signs of life among the conventions, compulsions, self-justifications, proofs, wise saws, simple but powerful messages, and poetry.
    Marvin Mudrick (1921–1986)

No remorse, huh? No pity. Just an animal.
Guy Trosper, U.S. screenwriter, and John Frankenheimer. Shoemaker, the prison warden (Karl Malden)
