Irish Republican Army - in Poetry

In Poetry

The poem called Belfast Confetti tells of the attacks made by the IRA. It also shows the extent to which an Irish man was interrogated by British Police and how he failed to be able to answer their questions due to a language barrier. The moral of the poem is that without language, conflict cannot be resolved.

Famous quotes containing the word poetry:

Poetry, and Picture, are Arts of a like nature; and both are busie about imitation. It was excellently said of Plutarch, Poetry was a speaking Picture, and Picture a mute Poesie. For they both invent, faine, and devise many things, and accommodate all they invent to the use, and service of nature. Yet of the two, the Pen is more noble, than the Pencill. For that can speake to the Understanding; the other, but to the Sense.
    Ben Jonson (1573–1637)

The author’s conviction on this day of New Year is that music begins to atrophy when it departs too far from the dance; that poetry begins to atrophy when it gets too far from music; but this must not be taken as implying that all good music is dance music or all poetry lyric. Bach and Mozart are never too far from physical movement.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
