Labour Party TDs Dominic Hannigan and John Lyons became the first openly gay people to be elected to the Dáil. There is also a record number of first time TDs with 76 elected for the first time.
It was the first occasion in which no political party won a seat in every constituency. Fine Gael took a seat in every constituency with the exception of Dublin North–West.
