Ipswich Park and Ride - Bury Road Park & Ride

Bury Road Park & Ride

Bury Road P&R closed on 29 January 2011. It was reported that the council did discuss the possible continuation of the site. This discussion was with another operator and using a possible standard bus route to the site. However, this was not deemed feasible as according to the council it would cost in excess of £100,000 to maintain the site each year. At a time of extreme cuts in council spending, it was seen to be too expensive to support. The cost of maintaining the site (once disused) remains unknown. In theory, the site could be sold for development, as it is in the grounds of the 'Anglia Retail Park'. However, this is unlikely due to the low price likely to be paid in a poor economic climate. The current contract for both Park and Ride sites ends in October 2013, when the contract is renewed there may be the possibility of the site returning back to use. It has been reported that Ipswich Buses could move their depot to the site and increase parking there. It has been reported that a developer is interested in doing this, although currently there are not any firm plans.

Famous quotes containing the words bury, road, park and/or ride:

In peace the sons bury their fathers, but in war the fathers bury their sons.
    Croesus (d. c. 560 B.C.)

Who does not see that I have taken a road along which I shall go, without stopping and without effort, as long as there is ink and paper in the world? I cannot keep a record of my life by my actions; fortune places them too low. I keep it by my thoughts.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

    and the words never said,
And the ominous, ominous dancing ahead.
We sat in the car park till twenty to one
And now I’m engaged to Miss Joan Hunter Dunn.
    Sir John Betjeman (1906–1984)

Nor does the family even move about together,
But every son would have his motor cycle,
And daughters ride away on casual pillions.
