Legal Structure
In July 2002, Investec became the first South African company to list on both the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges, by implementing a dual listed companies (DLC) structure.
The main features of the DLC structure are:
- Investec plc and Investec Limited are separate legal entities and listings, but are bound together by contractual agreements and mechanisms.
- Investec plc is the holding company for the majority of the group's non-Southern African operations and Investec Limited is the holding company for the majority of the group's Southern African operations.
- Investec operates as if it is a single unified economic enterprise.
- Shareholders have common economic and voting interests as if Investec plc and Investec Limited were a single company.
- Creditors, however, are ring-fenced to either Investec plc or Investec Limited as there are no cross guarantees between the companies.

Famous quotes containing the words legal and/or structure:
“In the course of the actual attainment of selfish endsan attainment conditioned in this way by universalitythere is formed a system of complete interdependence, wherein the livelihood, happiness, and legal status of one man is interwoven with the livelihood, happiness, and rights of all. On this system, individual happiness, etc. depend, and only in this connected system are they actualized and secured.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“Agnosticism is a perfectly respectable and tenable philosophical position; it is not dogmatic and makes no pronouncements about the ultimate truths of the universe. It remains open to evidence and persuasion; lacking faith, it nevertheless does not deride faith. Atheism, on the other hand, is as unyielding and dogmatic about religious belief as true believers are about heathens. It tries to use reason to demolish a structure that is not built upon reason.”
—Sydney J. Harris (19171986)
