Interstate 95 in South Carolina - History

History

Like virtually all state spanning stretches of the United States Interstate Highways, I-95 in South Carolina was constructed in various stages, mainly from north-to-south, from 1965 to 1980, which includes the 1968-built Lake Marion Bridge. The first traffic rolled along the highway from Dillon to Turbeville in 1968, finally able to cross the Savannah River south of Hardeeville by 1981.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    In the history of the United States, there is no continuity at all. You can cut through it anywhere and nothing on this side of the cut has anything to do with anything on the other side.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

    The History of the world is not the theatre of happiness. Periods of happiness are blank pages in it, for they are periods of harmony—periods when the antithesis is in abeyance.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

    You that would judge me do not judge alone
    This book or that, come to this hallowed place
    Where my friends’ portraits hang and look thereon;
    Ireland’s history in their lineaments trace;
    Think where man’s glory most begins and ends
    And say my glory was I had such friends.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
