  • Fong Po Kuan, Member of Parliament in Malaysia for the constituency of Batu Gajah, Perak and a member of the Democratic Action Party, received a law degree from IIUM in 1997.
  • Dr. Mohamed Fadzli Hassan, Member of the Kelantan Legislative Assembly for the constituecyt of Temangan and a member of the parti Islam Semalaysia, graduated with a law degree.

The J.William Fulbright Scholar which enabled him to pursue LL.M/Wharton Business & Law at an Ivy League institution, the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
  • Burhan Kawoosa, A Kashmiri student from Srinagar in the Indian Administered Kashmir who graduated from Kulliyah of Economics and Management Sciences with Bachelors in Business Administration.He was the champion at Royal Debating Championship, Malaysia in 1999. Ranked 7th in World Debating Championship, 2000. (Recognized by Malaysia Book of Records). He was the highest ranking Asian speaker in the world (2000). He is a lecturer in Finance at Wright State University and the Education Chair at Dayton CFA Society
  • Dr. A.H.M. Saifullah Sadi, Assistant Professor, College of Computing and Information Technology, Al Yamamah University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It is also noted that then Prime Ministers of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, king of Saudi Arabia were conferred honorary doctorates by IIUM.
