International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation - Strategic Directions

Strategic Directions

The broad vision for IHTSDO is set out in the . In 2008 the General Assembly and the Management Board agreed that the organisation’s focus for the next 3-5 years should be to broaden the use of SNOMED CT, within and across health information systems, countries and professions. Strategic Directions to 2015 describes IHTSDO’s plans for 2015. To ensure the implementation of the strategic directions, each Standing Committee develops a yearly action plan in their areas of responsibility. The IHTSDO aims at achieving interoperability and harmonisation between its terminology products and standards produced by other international standards development organisations. To this end, harmonization bodies consisting of IHTSDO representatives and representatives of other SDOs have been established. Examples are HL7, ICN, IEEE, LOINC & NPU, openEHR, WHO, and WONCA. For each harmonisation body, the IHTSDO aims at signing an agreement, setting out an agenda and the objectives of the harmonisation process.

Famous quotes containing the word strategic:

If the technology cannot shoulder the entire burden of strategic change, it nevertheless can set into motion a series of dynamics that present an important challenge to imperative control and the industrial division of labor. The more blurred the distinction between what workers know and what managers know, the more fragile and pointless any traditional relationships of domination and subordination between them will become.
    Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
